The other day I bought German teewurst. Tee means tea, and wurst means sausage in German (for the US market, it says teawurst on the package), but there is no tea in it. I guess it means people eat this sausage at tea time.
I like spreadable raw sausage but I find teewurst is quite fatty, I prefer lean mettwurst. As my friend in Berlin left a comment a while ago, it’s tasty to eat teewurst with chopped onion on bread. If you can’t be bothered to cut onion, you can also get zwiebelmettwurst which has onion in it.
この間、ドイツのテーヴルストを買ってきた（パッケージにはアメリカ市場向けに英語表記で teawurst となっているけど、ドイツ語では teewurst）。テーは紅茶、ブルストはソーセージという意味。と言っても紅茶は入っていない。きっとティータイム（おやつの時間）に食べるソーセージと言う事なんだろうな。
テーヴルストは脂分が多いので、同じ塗るタイプの生ソーセージなら赤身が多いメットヴルストの方が私は好き。以前コメント欄でベルリンの友人が書いてくれたけど、メットヴルストは刻んだ玉ねぎも一緒にパンに乗せて食べると美味しい。面倒だと思う人には既にタマネギが入っているツヴィーベルメットヴルストがいいかも。
Unfortunately, Lehr’s German specialties, where I bought teewurst, didn’t have mettwurst. This shop is not big, but they have a small selection of everything: some household goods, clothing, magazines, music etc. It was fun to check it out.
とは言え、今回このテーヴルストを購入したドイツのお店、Lehr’s German specialties にはメットヴルストは置いてなかった。残念。このお店、こじんまりしているのに食べ物だけじゃなく、雑貨や衣類、雑誌、音楽なんかも少しづつ手広く扱っていて、見ているだけでもちょっと面白かった。
