Last week I made Japanese hamburg (hanbāgu) with tofu. Just in case you never heard of this before, hamburg is a short word for hamburger steak in Japan! This is one of C’s and my favourite Japanese dishes, so I will probably post the recipe soon.
先週作ったミニ豆腐ハンバーグ弁当。英語だとハンバーグ（ハンブルグ）とは省略せずにハンバーガーステーキと言う。ならば、これは正しくはミニ豆腐ハンバーガーステーキ弁当。なんだか違う食べ物みたい。豆腐を入れたハンバーグは私も相棒も気に入っているので近いうちにレシピを載せようかな。

It’s getting cold and started to rain outside. Apparently this winter is the coldest one for years in San Francisco. The room temperature is 16°C now, without any heating device. Not so bad.
今日はたぬき。そして大根ステーキ。冷たい雨が降ってきた。今年のサンフランは通常よりもかなり寒いらしい。と言っても今の室内の気温が暖房なしで16℃だから騒ぐほどでもない。
The three colours bento (sanshoku bento) usually means minced meat (niku soboro), fine scrambled egg (tamago soboro) and shredded snow pea are on top of rice.
懐かしの三色弁当。子供の頃、母が作ってくれたのはブタではなく鶏そぼろで、サヤインゲンではなくホウレンソウだったと思う。
This is also one of the classic Japanese bento, Shake-Ben (grilled salmon). I think this was my first apple rabbit.

お弁当のおかずと言えば、王道のハンバーグ。健康が気になる大人なのでゴボウと豆腐入り。
I haven’t made any bento boxes for ages. I have to think something not watery, tasty when it is cold (could heat it up if the box is microwave-proof), and easy to prepare. This is the most important rule.
久しぶりに作ったお弁当。水気が出なくて、冷めてもおいしくて（温めてもいいけど、なんとなくお弁当は冷たい方がいいと思う）、そしていちばん大事なのが簡単に出来るもの。そこに尽きる。
