On saturday afternoon, when I was listening music and surfing on the internet, the music suddenly stopped with the snapping sound. I thought our power breaker went off, then a loud police car and a fire truck stopped at the corner of our street. I realised that the power went out in our whole neighbourhood.
I believed it wouldn’t take that long to get back to normal. I decided to wait at home, read some books, enjoyed some ice cream before it melts in a freezer. After a few hours I was bored. It’s awful that everything I want to do needs electricity.
土曜日の昼過ぎ、部屋で音楽を聞きながらネットをしていたらバチンという音がして曲が止まった。ブレーカーが落ちたのかと確認していたら、大きな音と共に勢い良く走ってきたパトカーと消防車が近くの交差点で停まった。どうやら近所まるごとの停電らしい。
しばらくすれば元に戻るだろうと冷凍庫に入っていたアイスを食べたり、本を読んだりしてのんびりしていたけど、なかなか復旧しない。それにしても自分の日常生活は電気が無いとやれない事ばかり。
When C came back from beach he brought a Pauline’s pizza home. Nice. My plan was reading some books with candle lights, but actually it was not bright enough even for eating pizza.
ビーチへ出かけていた相棒がポーリーンズのおいしいピザを買って戻ってきた。夜はゆっくりロウソクの灯りで読書でも、なんて思ったけれど、実際にはピザを食べるにも暗すぎた。
The underground restoration work finally started on the next morning. I took a photo with a wrong white balance.
翌朝、やっと復旧作業の開始。地下に入っての工事、時間はまだまだかかるらしい。うっかりホワイトバランスを間違っての撮影。
We had no hot water, no internet access, no TV, also no cooking. What else do we want to do? Going outside! We went to a coffee shop on Valencia St.
There are many coffee shops with free WiFi in SF, and more than half of the customers are with laptops. Unfortunately these coffee shops usually play hard/pop rock music. I don’t want it in a coffee shop, especially if I want to chat or read a book.
I thought I would never take my MacBook to a coffee shop, but this time it saved us! C and I both could charged our MacBooks and phones while we were online. Luckily the shop wasn’t busy, the owner was nice and the BGM was good classical music. I can’t believe that we stayed there more than four hours!
Here is the power outage news on Mission Local site. We didn’t have electricity for about 22 hours, and I missed some games on last two days in Olympics.
家にいてもお湯は出ない、ネットは使えない、テレビも見れない、そして料理も出来ないとなると、出かけるしかない。行き先はバレンシア通りのコーヒーショップ。
サンフランシスコのコーヒーショップは無料でWifiが使える所がたくさんあるので、店内の半数以上の客はラップトップを広げている。流れている音楽はほとんどの場合がハードやポップなロックなので本を読んだりオシャベリしたりするにはちょっと辛い環境。
あんまり利用する機会はないと思っていたけれど今回は助かった。店は混んでいなかったし、オーナーも良い人で、BGMがクラッシック音楽。居心地はバッチリだった。夫婦揃ってマックブックと携帯を充電しながら、なんと4時間以上も居座ってしまった。
結局、停電は約22時間ほど続いて、オリンピック最後の2日間を見逃した。
